SFUSD Leadership Transition
The leadership transition within SFUSD has temporarily halted school closures/mergers, but as a community, we must remain vigilant. Cantonese Biliteracy programs and other language support services are still vulnerable. TACT has been monitoring shifts within CB school sites in the past 3 years and we need your help!! Teachers on the front line know the flaws in our system. We know the challenges and intricacies for each site.
During the last few months, we have spoken to educators and families who bring up good points and ideas that may not have been considered. That is why we must continue to advocate for and demand that district leadership is transparent, that we be included in all levels of planning. Please join TACT and stay in touch with the latest updates.
More than ever, we have to come together as teachers and educators to support each other, professionally and personally.
TACT is offering multiple opportunities for educators to connect:

Chinatown Rising for Free
The Chinatown Rising team has received funding to offer public schools free screenings with Q&A, classroom/school presentations, and Chinatown Social Justice Tours. Their offerings can be customized to a teacher's needs. You can do two no-cost engagements per school, in any combination (two presentations, one presentation and one tour, etc) and they can do as many as possible until funding runs out. Here are some choices:
Full film screening (85 minutes) and Q&A
Presentation featuring impactful excerpts from the film (totaling around 25 minutes of video), with additional context and commentary, and then a Q&A. This format can be adapted to any length and also excerpts can be customized. Typically this is ideal for a 50-75 minute session.
90-minute walking tour of SF Chinatown for up to 25 people, featuring stops at historically and culturally significant sites. Lots of engaging back and forth with me, a fourth generation Chinatown resident.
Film, excerpts, and digital study guide licenses for your faculty and students to use throughout the year.
